Promoting new talent

Teaching and learning at the IVI

The IVI is actively involved in promoting young talent, and especially in the training of:

  • Students at the Universities of Bern and Zurich
  • Doctoral and post-doctoral students from Switzerland and abroad
  • Biology lab technicians
As part of its cooperation with the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern, the IVI is responsible for teaching and research in the fields of virology and immunology.

Training

The IVI:

  • Is responsible for the training of veterinary students in virology and immunology
  • Is extensively involved in teaching and training in the field of biosafety at the Vetsuisse Faculty
  • Is actively involved in the training of Bachelor’s and Master’s students in the Faculty of Science at the University of Bern
  • Supervises projects of doctoral students at the Vetsuisse Faculty (Dr. med. vet.) and at the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (GCB) of the University of Bern (PhD)
  • Appoints experts and mentors to the various GCB expert committees
  • Is one of the largest training organisations for biology lab technicians in the Canton of Bern, with at least four trainees every year.

Further education and training

  • Further education and training of veterinary specialists, other experts (e.g. animal experimentation, biosafety), veterinary officers and private veterinarians.
  • Training and examination of FVH (Foederatio veterinaria helvetiae) candidates.
  • Communication for information and public dialogue.
