IVI Diagnostics is the Swiss national reference laboratory for a wide range of notifiable viral epizootic diseases according to the Epizootic Diseases Ordinance.

The genetic variability of viruses and the increasing emergence of «new» viruses place high demands on diagnostic methods. Thanks to constant monitoring and optimisation work, it is possible to ensure reliable detection.
Tasks of IVI Diagnostics
- Ensuring diagnostics for notifiable viral epizootics as part of early detection and in surveillance programmes, and especially in the event of a disease outbreak
- Conducting routine diagnostics for livestock farms and industry
- Advising the FSVO, other federal offices, cantonal authorities and the veterinary profession on viral epizootics and zoonoses
- Developing diagnostic methods for emerging viral diseases
- Evaluating commercial diagnostic tests as part of their approval process
- Organising national ring tests.
